You can generally write off the item if it generates income. If your review of this shirt can reasonably be linked to income from your substack, affiliate links, etc. you’re fairly safe. The “reasonable” part is where things get iffy, I think as long as you don’t try to get cute with the IRS you’ll be alright.
Thanks Steven! Appreciate the thoughtful reply. Sounds promising, but I’ll have to mull over how to do this without feeling like I’m becoming a walking advertisement.. much to consider
There’s so much you can write off aside from something like a t shirt that if you don’t want to write off clothing you or a good accountant can find many other things that won’t make you feel like that.
I have pretty much your exact dimensions (6’2 215) and I went crazy and bought three shirts, all XLs. I had an existential crisis because they were too tight, especially around my love handles, which caused me to hit the gym insanely hard for the next month. Now they fit normal, and they are great 😅
Yeah good call, I was thinking doing a roundup of all of the high-end basics tees would be a great article idea too. Maybe include other favorites like lady white, sunspel, etc. how do you like 3sixteen? I’ve heard mixed reviews on them honestly. Something about them shrinking like crazy
On the 3s tees, there are two types: the Pima and the heavyweight. The heavyweight were the ones that would shrink but they changed the fabric and they no longer shrink. The Pima tees do not shrink (unless you wash and dry hot). Pima is a looser fit while heavyweight is a more vintage trim fit. I wear large in both but could size up the heavyweight to XL and it would work just fine.
Makes sense! I think I read that way back when they first introduced their tees and never bothered to update my priors.
How would you rate their tees versus comparable brands e.g., merz, whitesville, etc.? Was thinking of breaking this out into a series and would really appreciate some input
They are very good tees. Not many bells and whistles like Merz. Fabric is simple and not much texture. Pima is a lighter than Whitesville and with side seams. Neck holds up really well.
I just measured my Heavyweight t-shirt from 3sixteen after a few washes, and it's actually slightly bigger than the measurements I can see on their website haha

Lmao yeah I feel that. Actually fitting into the expensive shit I buy is one of my primary motivators for staying in (decent) shape
P from an OG…newgens won’t remember your failure not to buy any clothes in 2023
So true Jim, newfriends could never...

Also, you might enjoy Left Field and 3sixteen tees which are much closer to you geographically, more generous in size, and also less expensive

Also, Heddels did this incredible review series of 18 white t-shirts under $100, including Merz and 3sixteen: https://www.heddels.com/2019/01/great-white-t-shirt-review/

How’s the neck size on that devil?
Pretty roomy. The nature of loopwheeled cotton also means that it’s a bit liable to stretch out as the day progresses too
